Land Rover Gearbox Rebuild

This video is a quick toss together of some clips during the rebuild with no attention to sound design. Consider it an update on the build that has been taking way longer than first planned.
Very much stuck in a limbo between shipping, waiting for big items and the legal paperwork to get everything sorted. The Norwegian State's system responsible for registrations and modifications (chassis swap) currently has a 6-7 months (!!!) wait. So I'm doing my best not to freak out about the pace of everything.
A better update coming soon!

linktr.ee/kasperhoglund Spent most of the time the last few months at this, with the main focus on the shorter videos for Instagram, Shorts and TikTok. Mostly due to a lot more people watching and interacting. However, it is the longer videos I actually enjoy making. So make sure to stick around by subscribing or dropping a comment so the next video reaches you again. And we can all look forwar...

There is always a few that will spoil it for the many
I drove my first 88 in 1986-87 my staff sergeant assumed I had a driving licence and I drove 100 miles on a round trip, after it he asked for a copy of my licence and was not best pleased to discover I couldn't drive,,, his mistake not mine 😂😂😂 I have loved the simplicity of them ever since
I agree with you because I know what it's like living in Great Britain and even though I am Polish, we have been fighting such people for 10 years and we try to take care of our routes, but the local authorities close the routes and we are not surprised at all. And I wonder how we would go to the Nazis and ride through farmers' fields. But I know one thing that in 4 weeks I should be in Oslo with my chariot 😂 (RangeRover l322 4.4.tdv8) so see you somewhere on the legal trail. Regards
You do know that there is a little holder for your fuel cap on the lid... Right ? 😂😂 @3:16. ;)
"...I use those words instead of snorkel to avoid stupid people." Hilarious.
Hello. This video is excellent. Thank you. I have a 2013 LR4 and would like to mimic your wheel setup. Is reducing the frame horn by an inch the only modification you recommend while I have the wheels removed? Also, the white rims are beautiful. Who is the manufacturer?
Hi Kasper. Greetings from South Africa. Why the decision to move from the 109 to the 88 inch? The 109 seems a lot more practical for your purposes
Mate. I have a ‘64 2a 88” that I’ve been slowly restoring over the years while keeping it on the road. My 5 and 7 year olds love it and It’ll be in my family for generations. It means so much more to everyone that it’s got so much of my whole families blood sweat and tears into. Just like you knowing you’ll be able to handle roadside repairs because you’ve been thoroughly over that truck, it also adds such a sense of value and sentiment to it. They already had so much character and then after someone lovingly restores it, bringing it back from the brink, you really bring it alive. CONGRATS. great videos as well.
what grease are you using for bearings and such?
Love the longer vids! Keep it up Kasper 🎉
Parkeringsbot? Tross allemannsretten? Har du ikke lov å overnatte denne plassen eller har det vært skilt med parkeringsfobud ? Merkeligt. Ellers fantastiske videoer du lager, tommel opp👍
to small tires
Og med denne videoen/temaet fikk du en følger👍 kjører mye i eget terreng men jeg er så heldig at jeg kan kombinere næring/morro😊
Love your approach and way of thinking. Sometimes you just have to fix something and move on, but if you truly take the time to understand it then you are much better equipped for many things that you may encounter down the road.
Good on you butha they say don’t fix what ain’t broke but how the fuck you supposed to learn 😂
It’s similar in New Zealand. Freedom camping used to be a big thing, and to an extent still is - but it’s been ruined by the minority who do bad things like leave rubbish and use that bush 1m from the campsite as a toilet.
Why not make the whole car electric, cheaper to maintain and use the electric to run all your stuff…😊
Been waiting for a long form video!
yer wheels look similar to old wide 5 VW wheels lol
Needs a Delco alternator.
Fantastic video, story telling and editing. Keep doing what you are doing.
Nice work man. Love that Land rovers series 2 and 3, the best farm and outdoors jeep 😅🤏. I think will buy one but in Netherland not easy to find them specially series 3. Meanwhile im getting motivation from your videos thank you for sharing your experiences. Good luck !
Keep up the great work, can't wait to see the beauty on our roads! <3
Awesome video. Did you notice when you were engaging the 3/4th gear syncro it move forward quite a lot. Had loads of play? Just rebuilding mine and can't find any reference to it but it feels like it moves a lot?
Knocked all the way to lock two gears at the same time to be able to tighten the main nut at the bell house 👍
Nice one - good narration and breathtaking imagery. I can only hope one day to reach your cinematic level 😮 Dope Disco btw - love it 🙂
all thye gearbox selectors in befoe bellhousing is easier
dont drown it in oil just makes it messy u will put oil in at the very end i imagine
Love these videos Kasper, they are super inspiring, thanks Mate!!
👍
A problem everywhere, what our gvt did is to restrict those areas access, tourists have to book guides through a travel agency and appropriate visas.
While I really like your commentary, It's also enjoyable to watch you silently work on the car. Oddly hypnotic
Love this build
I'm loving all the videos, the long ones are great. It bring back memories of my mum taking us to school in a land rover, series 3. Good times. Keep up the hard work mate looking amazing
Cool man I will be restoring a 88 soon on my channel.
Getting the preload spot on is always the one thing that puts me off attempting a gearbox/transfer/diff rebuild myself, especially the preload procedure for the Disco3 rear diff. I'd probably be happy to try it on a series/early land rovers.
For a series everything is pretty doable! And the numbers are pretty wide open 😂 but I’m following old dude tips to choose one end of the scale for some of them. The moderner cars I wouldn’t dare to test without knowing how to 😅
Have paracord in the shop it's relatively inexpensive to purchase
Sure! But found nothing and it was a bank holiday 👍 not my go to tool
Well done, it’s great to see every coming together 😊
"The Norwegian State's system ....." Don't despair. The day will come when you can enjoy your work. They needed 8 month for my car.
The longer content is very enjoyable. Allows for a real understanding of exactly how much work is going into the restoration of the old girl. Keep up the awesome work. 👌🏻👌🏻
Norda comimg in for help hahah😅
It's relaxing just watching you work on even the most boring stuff. Fill the wait-time with detail work.
I had a lot of trouble getting into the short video's on this, very hard to keep track in what order they were posted. I much prefer your longer content. It gets me in a certain vibe that I don't snap out of until the video is through.
Great video with desirable shifting to a more detailed filming of particular part of build. For me who is just thinking about repairing of transfer case on a conceptually similar off-road car - it's quite an inspiring stuff:) Would you mind to share text books, web resources which you find most useful in your restoration (Series or Land Rover in general) ? PS Sounds of working tools someone could treat even more charming than music:)))
i'm not even a land rover fan, but these videos rock
Nice one mate, first car I was ever in was a series 1 on a small farm in Orkney in the 60s, Dad just used it like an extra tractor! Ah! Happy days 😊
Hell YEAH!
Liker holdningen, skal man gjøre noe så gjør man det ordentlig første gangen. Eller så lar man være👍 Lykke til videre, blir nok veldig bra dette prosjektet.
Hey! The dude ran over some moss. I'm sure you have plenty of moss left over. Up the fines, get your local constabulary to put down the donuts and go patrol those sensitive areas. If these are international visitors with imported vehicles? You have huge leverage on their financials. You could confiscate their vehicle. You enviro-nazis get so upset about the smallest b.s. that you make most people want to shoot a panda. Just to give you something legit to cry about. Do you understand psychology? A zero-tolerance policy just creates more problems than it solves.
Quick 10 minute assembly job when the chassis arrives ! 😉
This video is really on the line between art and an informative car video on UA-cam. I love what you're doing with this build and the production value that you offer is second to none. Thank you for bringing this project to our viewing
